How a weekly cut works

You pick a weekly spot on our route and it stays yours for the season. We show up that day, cut, trim, edge and blow off, and we're gone. You don't need to be home and you don't need to leave a gate open unless the backyard is part of the job.

If rain pushes us back, the cut happens the next dry day and you hear about it. If the lawn doesn't need a cut because it's been dry for three weeks, we skip it and you don't pay for it.

Why 3 inches

Most lawns in Guelph get cut too short. Grass left around 3 inches grows deeper roots, shades the soil so weed seeds don't sprout, and holds its colour longer when August goes dry. We raise it a little more in a heat wave.

We also never take off more than a third of the blade at once. That's why weekly matters in May and June. A lawn that's grown for two weeks in the spring flush can't be cut back properly in one visit without scalping it.

Weekly or every second week?

Weekly from the first cut until about the start of July. After that, a lot of Guelph lawns slow right down, and every second week is fine until the fall growth kicks in. We'll tell you honestly which one your lawn needs. If biweekly makes more sense, we'll say so.

Sharp blades

A dull blade tears the grass instead of cutting it, and the torn tips go white a couple of days later. We sharpen blades through the season so the lawn looks clean the day after, not just the day of.
